After a learning and training journey of six months, nine Latino parents graduated from the Padres Adelante Leadership Program! This initiative is a collaborative between the Minnesota Immigrant Freedom Network, Tamales y Bicicletas, and El Colegio Charter School. The trainings were geared to provide the tools necessary for our Latino parents to help increase our community’s access to education, mobilize to gain more access to local and neighborhood resources, and to take action to create healthier physical environments. Trainings involved guest speakers, roundtable discussions and action days at the Capitol and the Minneapolis School Board meetings. We are excited to continue this work for next year’s cohort and we once again congratulate all of the parents who completed this program – these parents are now working to stay engaged by creating a “Coperativa” to help raise scholarship moneys for their children and to strengthen the parent involvement at the El Colegio School.
