MIFN was established in the wake of the national Immigrant Worker’s Freedom Ride of 2003 and the Minnesota Freedom Ride of 2004. Both events were held in the tradition and spirit of the civil rights Freedom Rides of the 60’s to call for humane and just changes to America’s immigration laws. To build on this momentum MIFN incorporated as an organization in June of 2005. Our strategies over the past six years have included youth leadership development, immigrant civic engagement, media justice & media participation, and using art as a tool for social change.
The Minnesota Immigrant Freedom Network is a state-wide immigrant integration group whose mission is to fix the broken immigration system in this country. We do this by empowering and engaging new Minnesotans and their allies through access to education, civic engagement, and leadership development. Our initiatives help eliminate discrimination based on immigration status to ensure all new Americans can fully participate in building a more united and sustainable Minnesota economy.
I like the name and the cause of the organization but was just wondering if you are inclusive of other MN immigrants, not latin americans? You can send your response to gudbaaye@gmail.com

Posted by David | December 1, 2008, 7:19 pmI am a teacher in Minneapolis, and I realized how ignorant I was about my undocumented students’ and their families this past year. I want to be aware of my students’ rights as they are seeking out financial aid for college, looking into citizenship classes, etc. Do you have resources you recommend?
Posted by Amy | June 25, 2009, 12:18 amA resource for students/parents/school representatives (i.e. teachers) is NAVIGATE. They are students who have gotten into college and I am sure they can assist if they can sine many are in school during the school year
Posted by student | September 30, 2009, 2:57 pmThanks too all of the hard working people @ MIFN for taking a stand on immigrant rights in this beautiful country of ours! We are a nation of immigrants; let us learn from our past historical mistakes and move forward to create a peaceful world without hate, discrimination and oppression!
Posted by Roberto | November 11, 2009, 5:00 pmI am looking for some advice. I’m working with undocumented students who wish to go to college but are not eligible for FAFSA monies. Does anyone know of scholarships or grants available in these circumstances?
Thank you.
Posted by Bruce | April 8, 2010, 12:46 amDear Minnesota Immigrant Freedom Network,
My name is Sophia Ristau, and I am a student enrolled in a college course called Perspectives on Health and Aging at the University of St. Katherine’s in St. Paul. I am currently researching to find different perspectives on retirement in (Hispanic) aging migrant workers for an extensive paper. I have already completed a preliminary search and have a good grasp on the topic. I am wondering if you would be able to connect me with someone who could share their knowledge, thoughts, and opinions with me, in order to gain a new perspective on my topic, or the difficulties for migrant workers with jobs (i.e benefits) Thanks,
Sophia Ristau
