5th Annual Student Day at the Capitol!

Tuesday, April 21

8:00am – 2:00pm

Workshops, Pre-Registration, and T-Shirts

We invite you and your students to participate in our 5th Annual Student Day at the Capitol, on this day Latino, immigrant and allied youth will have an opportunity to voice their opinions, stories, and personal her/histories around immigration and education, while they learn about civic engagement and social justice. Students will also get a chance to speak with legislators about improving access to higher education and creating more scholarships so all youth, regardless of immigration or income status, can go to college.

Last year was a huge success! We worked with 26 high schools, middle schools, and after-school programs in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Greater Minnesota with our youth leadership program. We organized nearly 1,000 students on Student Day at the Capitol to connect with one another and work to remove the instituional barriers standing in the way of their college education. We are building on last year’s success and want to invite more schools, students, and teachers to be a part of building this movement for access to higher education for all.

Victory with the Flat Rate Tuition Bill

101_0137

For the past few years we-immigrants and allies-have been fighting for equal access to higher education for all students regardless of their immigration status. And during the last legislative session we made history! Although we still have to keep fighting for the MN Dream Act, we won a huge victory with the passage of the Flat-Rate Tuition Bill.

Undocumented students have won the right to attend 22 Minnesota colleges for in-state tuition.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!! This is a great achievement and you all should feel very proud. The future college students can now hope for a brighter and educated future thanks to your efforts. Hopefully your efforts won’t stop there and will continue advocating for the Federal DREAM Act to help it come true. Keep up the good work.

Hello,

I would like to register to have a table at this event representing Minnesota TRiO. I was told of this opportunity by Raul Ramos from Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. If this is possible, I would need to know the location, time, parking, etc.

Thank You,

Melody Geiger
